The movement of heaven is full of power. Thus the superior man makes himself strong and untiring. The earth's condition is receptive devotion. Thus the superior man who has breadth of character carries the outer world.

天行健，君子以自强不息；地势坤，君子以厚德载物。

The highest good is like water. Water benefits all things without contention. It stays in places that others disdain.

上善若水，水善利万物而不争，处众人之所恶，故几于道。

Qian (Heaven) is three solid lines, Kun (Earth) is six broken lines. The eight trigrams represent the fundamental principles of reality.

乾三连，坤六断，震仰盂，艮覆碗，离中虚，坎中满，兑上缺，巽下断。

Is it not pleasant to learn with a constant perseverance and application? Is it not delightful to have friends coming from distant quarters?

学而时习之，不亦说乎？有朋自远方来，不亦乐乎？

When Heaven is about to confer a great responsibility on any man, it will exercise his mind with suffering.

天将降大任于斯人也，必先苦其心志，劳其筋骨。

When blocked, change. Through change comes freedom. Through freedom, longevity.

穷则变，变则通，通则久。
